“Throughout all the worlds,
All who are born must return to death;
Though one’s lifespan may be immeasurable,
It will unfailingly come to an end.

What flourishes must decline;
Meetings must end in separation;
Youth does not linger long;
A glowing complexion is assailed by sickness.

Life is swallowed up by death;
There is no dharma that is permanent.
Though kings obtain mastery
And their power is without equal,

All undergo transition and destruction,
And their lifespans are likewise so.
The cycle of manifold sufferings is boundless,
Revolving without rest.

The three realms are all impermanent;
Among all states of existence there is no pleasure.
The intrinsic nature of the realm of existence
Is entirely empty and void of anything.

Dharmas subject to destruction are in flux,
Ever attended by decline and disaster,

By terrifying faults and evils,
By old age, sickness, death, decline, and distress.
These are endless,
Easily ruined and assailed by enemies.

Entangled by afflictions (kleśa),
Like a silkworm dwelling in a cocoon—
How could anyone endowed with wisdom
Take pleasure in this place?

This body is an accumulation of suffering,
Wholly impure throughout;
A bondage of boils, ulcers, and sores,
Ultimately void of benefit or purpose.

Ascending even to the bodies of the gods,
They too are just like this.
All desires are impermanent;
Therefore I do not crave or cling to them.

Free from desire and reflecting skillfully,
I have realized the true reality.”
