5.91

依業報差別經中。具說十業得阿修羅報。一身行微惡。二口行微惡。三意行微惡。四起於憍慢。五起於我慢。六起於增上慢。七起於大慢。八起於邪慢。九起於慢慢。十迴諸善根向阿修羅趣。若依正法念經。廣說四種修羅業因不同若約餘經。多由瞋慢及疑三種因業得彼生報。

According to the Karmavibhaṅga-sūtra, ten karmas that yield the retribution of an asura are fully explained: 1. slight evil in bodily action; 2. slight evil in verbal action; 3. slight evil in mental action; 4. giving rise to pride; 5. giving rise to conceit; 6. giving rise to excessive conceit; 7. giving rise to great conceit; 8. giving rise to erroneous conceit; 9. giving rise to conceit over conceit; 10. dedicating one's wholesome roots toward the destiny of asuras. If relying on the Saddharmasmṛtyupasthāna-sūtra, it explains in detail four kinds of karmic causes for asuras that are distinct. If based on other sūtras, it is mostly through the three kinds of karmic causes of anger, conceit, and doubt that one obtains birth and retribution among them.
