51.17

又迦羅越六向拜經云。善知識者有四輩。一外如怨家內有厚意。二於人前直諫於外說其善。三病𤸃縣官為其怔忪憂解之。四見人貧賤心不棄捐當念欲富之善。知識者復有四輩。一為吏所捕將歸藏匿於後解決之。二有病瘦消損將歸養視之。三知識死亡棺殮視之。四知識已死復念其家。

Furthermore, the Sūtra on Gṛhapatika [Singāla's] Obeisance to the Six Directions says: There are four types of good friends: first, one who appears outwardly like an adversary but inwardly cherishes deep affection; second, one who admonishes straightforwardly before one's face yet praises one's virtues to outsiders; third, when one is emaciated by illness or in trouble with officialdom, one who is anxious on one's behalf and resolves one's grief; fourth, seeing that one is poor and lowly, one whose heart does not abandon him but always thinks of wanting to make him prosperous. There are four more types of good friends: first, when one is arrested by officials, taking one home, hiding one, and later resolving the matter; second, when one is sick, emaciated, and weakened, taking one home to nurse and look after; third, when a friend dies, looking after the coffining and funeral; fourth, after a friend is dead, continuing to look after his family.
