51.9

是故要須真實利益眾生。先自調伏然後教人。無寡聞失。無退行失。無散亂失。無輕慢失。無顛倒失。無貪求失。無瞋恚失。無邪行失。無著我失。無小行失。具此十法名善知識。故莊嚴論偈云。

Therefore, it is essential truly to benefit sentient beings, first taming oneself and afterwards teaching others. One must be without the fault of little learning, without the fault of retreating from practice, without the fault of distraction, without the fault of contemptuous arrogance, without the fault of inverted views, without the fault of covetous seeking, without the fault of hatred, without the fault of wrongful conduct, without the fault of attachment to a self, and without the fault of inferior practice. Endowed with these ten dharmas, one is called a good friend. Therefore a verse in the Mahāyānasūtrālaṃkāra says:
