Furthermore, the Saddharmasmṛtyupasthāna-sūtra states: As to the Trāyastriṃśa devas experiencing the pleasures of the five desires: by analogy, the pleasures experienced by a golden-wheel-turning king do not equal even a sixteenth part of heavenly pleasures. The heavenly bodies they receive have neither bones nor flesh, nor any defilement. They do not generate jealousy. Their eyes do not blink. Their garments have no dust or grime. There are no mists or hazes, nor the affliction of urination and defecation. Their bodily radiance can illuminate far distances; a wheel-turning sage king has none of these things. Toward their wives and sons they show no partiality in taking them in. Free from jealousy, their food and drink appear at will; they have no suffering from sleep, exhaustion, or the like; a wheel-turning sage king has none of these things. When these devas are first born, they sing, dance, and play music without anyone teaching them; they do not learn from others, but through their wholesome karma naturally know it all. When retrogressing, because their wholesome karma is exhausted, they forget everything. If the lower heaven of Trāyastriṃśa still has such great pleasure, how much more so are the pleasures of the higher heavens difficult to compare! Progressively evaluating and comparing in this manner from below to above, up to the heaven of Neither Perception Nor Non-Perception, they are beyond comparison.
