53.14

問曰。若爾者。何以不言憂波提舍但言舍利弗。答曰。時人貴重其母。於眾女人中聰明第一。以是因緣故稱舍利弗。

The question is asked: If that is so, why is he not called Upatiṣya, but only called Śāriputra? The answer says: The people of the time held his mother in high esteem, as she was foremost in intelligence among all women; on account of this circumstance, he was called Śāriputra.
