佛告諸比丘。爾時獼猴主者今提婆達多是。爾時獼猴者今六群比丘是。爾時已曾更相隨順受諸苦惱。今復如是。

The Buddha told the bhikṣus: "The leader of the monkeys at that time was none other than Devadatta today. The monkeys at that time were none other than the group of six bhikṣus today. At that time they had already followed one another and suffered various torments; today it is just the same."
