54.59

王聞此偈恕偷果人罪。我為凡時尚見非法。況今成佛。汝諸弟子為下人說法。時偷果人者我身是也。

'The king, hearing this verse, pardoned the crime of the fruit-thief. Even when I was an ordinary mortal, I still saw what was contrary to the Dharma; how much more so now that I have become a Buddha? How can you, my disciples, expound the Dharma for an inferior person?' The fruit-thief of that time was myself.
