Shi Chang of the Jin dynasty. In the Taikang era of the Jin, he lived as a wealthy man. At that time, it was forbidden for Jin people to become śramaṇas. Chang revered the Dharma and did not fear the net of the law; he secretly established a vihāra in his residence to make offerings to śramaṇas. Yu Falan was also among them. He did not shrink from any bhikṣu who came. Later, a monk arrived whose appearance was rough and ugly, with tattered robes and muddy feet. Chang went out to salute him and ordered a slave to wash his feet. The monk said, 'Wash them yourself; why use a slave?' Chang said, 'I am old and ill; I use a slave to substitute for myself.' The monk did not permit it. Chang cursed privately and walked away. The monk manifested an eight-foot form, glorious and majestic in bearing, and flew away through the air. Chang beat his breast and threw himself into the mud. Fifty or sixty monks, nuns, and travelers within the house clearly saw him dozens of zhang up in the sky. A rare and fragrant aroma lingered in the residence for a month.
