"My whole body is afflicted with disease, / Alone and destitute, how can words express it? / The poorest in the whole country, / Neither clothing nor food covers my body. / In the world there are unkind people / Who still look upon me with pity and compassion. / How can one be called compassionate and loving / Yet remain unaware of this plight? / Among all the cold and suffering in the whole world, / None surpasses that of my own body. / I pray you show me forbearance and mercy; / It is truly not that I begrudge you [my food]."
