"With various speeches, / they ruin the most honored assembly;
when the noble assembly is ruined, / no one can admonish and stop it.
Bodies are broken even unto ending life, / elephants, cattle, horses, and wealth are seized,
countries are destroyed and extinguished entirely, / yet they still reconcile;
how much more so your minor words of abuse— / can they not be brought into harmony?
If you do not contemplate the true meaning, / how can enmity be quenched?
Abusing, rebuking, and censuring repeatedly, / can this bring restraint and harmony?
If you contemplate the true meaning, / enmity will surely be quenched.
If one stops dispute with dispute, / in the end one will not see it stop.
Only patience can stop dispute; / this Dharma is worthy of honor.
Anger directed at a wise, true person, / uttering dissolute words from the mouth,
slandering the sage of the Munis: / this is lowly and not wise."
