58.11

又法句喻經云。瑠璃王受佞臣阿薩陀等奸謀。升殿遂將兵就祇桓。不得還宮。與王官屬戰。王與夫人夜至王舍城。國中道飢餓噉蘆菔根。腹脹而薨。於是瑠璃拔劍入東宮斫殺兄祇。祇知無常心不恐懼。命未斷間。宮中自然音樂迎其魂神。瑠璃復由誅釋種。佛記及太史記。却後七日當為地獄火所燒殺。

Also, the Dharmapada-avadāna-sūtra says: King Virūḍhaka accepted the treasonous schemes of flatterers such as Asāta. Ascending the hall, he subsequently led troops towards Jetavana. Unable to return to the palace, he fought with the king's ministers and officials. At night, the king and his lady reached Rājagṛha. Hungry along the way within the kingdom, he ate radish roots; his belly swelled and he died. Thereupon, Virūḍhaka drew his sword, entered the Eastern Palace, and hacked to death his elder brother Jeta. Jeta knew impermanence and his mind harboured no fear; before his life was extinguished, spontaneous music within the palace welcomed his conscious spirit. Furthermore, because Virūḍhaka slaughtered the Śākya clan, both the Buddha's prophecy and the Grand Astrologer's record foretold that after seven days he would be burned and killed by the fires of hell.
