於觀世音菩薩像前。燒上沈水香。至誠呪白菖蒱根。滿八百遍服之得聞持不忘。自外黑赤青黃四種菖蒱亦有別呪。文煩不述。

Before an image of Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva, burn superior aloeswood incense and with utmost sincerity incant over the root of white calamus for a full eight hundred times. Ingesting it grants the ability to retain whatever is heard without forgetting. Beyond this, for the four kinds of calamus—black, red, blue, and yellow—there are also separate spells, but the text is cumbersome and they are not set forth.
