63.68

如過去因果經云。諸僧伽藍中。竹園僧伽藍。最為其心念。中本經云。羅閱祇國長者迦蘭陀心念。可惜我園施與尼揵。佛若先至奉佛及僧。悔恨前施永為棄捐。大鬼將軍。名曰半師。知其心念即召閱叉推逐尼揵。裸形無恥不應止此。尼揵驚。悑馳走而去。長者歡喜。營造精舍施佛及僧。

As the *Sūtra on Past Causes and Effects* states: "Among all saṃghārāmas, the Bamboo Grove Saṃghārāma is the one most cherished in mind." The *Zhongben Jing* states: "In the country of Rājagṛha, the elder Kalandaka thought to himself: 'How regrettable that I gave my grove to the Nirgranthas! If the Buddha had arrived first, I would have offered it to the Buddha and the Saṃgha. I deeply regret that earlier gift; it has been completely wasted.' A great yakṣa general named Pānīya knew his thought, and at once summoned yakṣas to expel the Nirgranthas: 'You who are naked and shameless ought not to stay here!' Terrified, the Nirgranthas fled in haste. The elder rejoiced and constructed a monastery, offering it to the Buddha and the Saṃgha."
