66.29

何謂怨憎會苦。世人薄俗共居愛欲之中。爭不急之事。更相殺害。遂成大怨。各自相避隱藏無地。各磨刀錯箭挾弓持杖。恐畏相見。會遇陜道相逢張弓竪箭兩刃相向。不知勝負是誰。當爾之時悑畏無量。此是苦不。答言。實是大苦。

"What is meant by the suffering of association with what is hated? The people of this world are vulgar, living together amid cravings and desires. Contending over non-essential matters, they mutually slaughter each other, and thus great enmities are formed. Each shuns the other, with no place to hide. Each sharpens knives, files arrows, carries a bow, and grasps a staff, fearing to see the other. When by chance they encounter each other on a narrow path, they draw bows, notch arrows, and face one another with crossed blades, not knowing who will prevail. At that moment, their terror is boundless. Is this suffering or not?"
He answered, saying: "Truly, it is great suffering."
