宋泰初元年。江州長史鄧琬。立刺史晉安王子勛為帝以作亂。初南郡太守張悅得罪。鎮歸楊都。及湓口赦之以為冠軍將軍。與共經紀軍事。琬前軍袁顗既敗。張悅懼誅。乃稱暴疾。仗甲而召。鄧琬既至。謂之曰。卿始此禍。而欲賣罪少帝乎。命斬於床前。并殺其子。以琬頭至。五十年悅寢疾見琬。為厲遂死。

In the first year of the Taichu era of the Song, Deng Wan, Chief Clerk of Jiangzhou, set up Prince Zixun of Jin'an, the Regional Inspector, as Emperor, thereby initiating rebellion. Earlier, Zhang Yue, Grand Protector of Nanjun, had committed an offence and was being escorted back to the Yang capital; when he reached Penkou, he was pardoned and made General of the Champions, joining in managing military affairs. After Wan's vanguard commander Yuan Yi was defeated, Zhang Yue feared execution; he claimed a sudden illness, took up arms and armour, and summoned [Wan]. When Deng Wan arrived, [Yue] said to him, 'You began this disaster, and do you now wish to lay the blame on the young emperor?' He ordered him to be beheaded before his bed, and also killed his son. He arrived [at the capital] with Wan's head. At the age of fifty, Yue was bedridden with illness and saw Wan act as a vengeful spirit, whereupon he died.
