Furthermore, the Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra says: 'Moreover, there are eight distinct stages of this embryo. What are the eight? They are the stage of the kalala, the stage of the arbuda, the stage of the peśī, the stage of the ghana, the stage of the praśākhā, the stage of hair and nails, the stage of the faculties, and the stage of bodily form. When it has congealed and within is thin, it is called kalala. When inside and outside it is like curd and has not yet reached the stage of flesh, it is called arbuda. When it has already become flesh yet remains exceedingly soft, it is called peśī. When it has become solid and thick, slightly capable of enduring touch, it is called ghana. When this mass of flesh expands and the signs of limbs and bodily parts appear, it is called praśākhā. After this, when hair and nails appear, it is named after this stage. After this, when the eye and other faculties arise, it is called the stage of the faculties. After this, when their bodily bases are distinctly manifested, it is called the stage of bodily form.'
