70.22

出為畜生。緣此瞋惱不能仁恕。所以出獄受畜生身。何故瞋惱復為餓鬼。緣此瞋惱從慳心起。慳心罪故復為餓鬼。何故瞋惱。常為一切求其長短。緣此瞋惱不能含容。故為一切求其長短。何故瞋惱常為眾人之所惱害。緣此瞋惱惱害於人。人亦惱害。當知瞋惱九大苦也。

result in emerging as an animal? Because this ill will and vexation lacks benevolence and forbearance; therefore, upon emerging from hell, one receives an animal's body. Why does ill will and vexation lead further to becoming a hungry ghost? Because this ill will and vexation arises from a stingy mind; due to the offense of a stingy mind, one becomes a hungry ghost. Why does one with ill will and vexation always have their shortcomings sought out by everyone? Because this ill will and vexation cannot tolerate others; therefore, everyone seeks out their shortcomings. Why is one with ill will and vexation constantly harassed and harmed by the multitudes? Because this ill will and vexation harasses and harms others; hence, others harass and harm them as well. One should know that ill will and vexation constitutes the ninth great suffering.
