色界七者。所謂四禪。即以為四。又於初禪之中取大梵天。第四禪中取五淨居并無想天。即為其七。將七帖前十四。即為二十一有也。無色界中四者。謂四無色定。以四帖前。即為二十五有。是故彼論偈云。

The seven of the form realm are: the so-called four dhyānas, which make four; taking the Mahābrahmā heaven from within the first dhyāna, and taking the five Śuddhāvāsa together with the Asamjñisattva heaven from the fourth dhyāna makes seven. Adding these seven to the previous fourteen makes twenty-one states of existence. The four within the formless realm are the four formless attainments; adding these four to the previous makes twenty-five states of existence. Therefore, that treatise states in verse:
