唐武德年中。隰州大寧人賀悅永興。為隣人牛犯其稼穡。乃以繩勒牛舌斷。永興後生子三人。並皆瘖瘂不能言語。

During the Wude era of the Tang dynasty, Heyue Yongxing of Daning in Xizhou had his standing crops damaged by a neighbour's ox. He then used a rope to bind the ox's tongue and severed it. Later, Yongxing fathered three sons, all of whom were mute and unable to speak.
