Worldly people, foolish and deluded, / Are greedily attached to the five desires; / To the point of death they do not let go, / And for this, in future lives, / They suffer immeasurable torment. / Like a foolish person / Greedily attached to fine fruit, / Who climbs a tree to eat it / And refuses to come down in time; / Someone chops down that tree, / And when the tree topples, he falls, / His body and head shattered, / Dying in agonizing pain: / When obtained, the pleasure is meager; / When lost, the suffering is great. / Like a knife coated with honey: / The one who licks it craves the sweetness, / Not knowing it cuts the tongue, / And afterwards suffers great pain.
