其畫工素不識字。忽寤乃倩人錄之。將示明解知友故人。皆曰。是明解文體不惑。聞見者莫不惻然。京下道俗傳之非一（右二驗出冥報拾遺）。

The painter was completely illiterate. Suddenly awakening, he engaged someone to record it and showed it to Mingjie's close friends and old acquaintances. All said, "This is Mingjie's literary style without doubt." None who heard or saw it were not moved with pity. It was recounted more than once by clergy and laity in the capital.
