8.89

如長阿含經云。天地初成諸天下來。食其地味變化為人。因有諍起。眾議立主。選得一人豪族最尊。𠕋為國主以治百姓。此即是釋迦先祖之王（廣如前劫量篇具說）。

As the Dīrgha Āgama says: When heaven and earth were first formed, the devas descended, and ate the earthly essence, transforming into humans. Because disputes arose, the assembly deliberated to establish a leader. They selected one person who was from the most eminent and noble clan, appointing him as the ruler of the realm to govern the common people. This was the ancestral king of Śākyamuni (explained extensively in the preceding chapter on kalpa measurements).
