Furthermore, the Bodhisattvabhūmi-śāstra states: "All giving, briefly stated, is of two kinds: 1. Internal things; 2. External things. A bodhisattva relinquishing their own body is called internal giving. If, for the sake of beings who feed on vomited matter, one gives what one has eaten and vomited, this is called internal-and-external giving. Aside from what is mentioned above, it is called external giving. A bodhisattva's internal giving has two kinds: 1. Relinquishing the body in giving, acting under the control of another's power according to whatever they wish. For example, just as a person, for the sake of food and clothing, binds themselves to another as a servant; likewise, the bodhisattva, not for personal profit, but solely for supreme bodhi, for the peace and happiness of sentient beings, and to fulfill the dāna-pāramitā, relinquishes the body in giving, acting under the control of another's power according to whatever they wish. 2. Giving away everything—limbs, joints, and so forth—according to what the other needs. A bodhisattva's external giving also has three kinds: 1. Joyfully giving implements of enjoyment and pleasure according to what is requested. 2. Relinquishing everything with an impartial mind and giving everything in order to serve them. As for the bodhisattva's internal and external possessions, they are not without discrimination: giving equally to all, there are things given and things not given. If it brings pleasure to sentient beings but not security, or brings neither pleasure nor security, then one does not give it. If it brings security to sentient beings though not pleasure, or brings both security and pleasure, then one gives completely."
