82.23

說是偈已。即便捨版持與上座。既授版已。於時海神感其精誠。即接年少比丘置於岸上。海神合掌白比丘言。我今歸依堅持戒者。汝今遭是厄難之事。能持佛戒。海神說偈報曰。

Having spoken this verse, he immediately gave up the plank and held it out to the elder. Having handed over the plank, at that time the sea god was moved by his utmost sincerity, and immediately caught the young bhikṣu and placed him on the shore. The sea god joined his palms and said to the bhikṣu: 'I now take refuge in one who firmly upholds the precepts. Now encountering such a matter of distress and calamity, you were able to uphold the Buddha's precepts.' The sea god spoke a verse in reply:
