問曰。若爾何故經論云有一語二語優婆塞等。答曰。此是制前。制後不得。問得從一二三人各受一歸。答曰。不得。

It asks: 'If so, why do sūtras and treatises say that there are one-phrase and two-phrase upāsakas, and so forth?' The answer states: 'This was before the formulation of the rule; after the formulation, it is not permitted.' It asks: 'Can one receive one refuge each from one, two, or three persons?' The answer states: 'It cannot be done.'
