Regarding the Mahāyāna bodhisattva precepts, there are three types, namely the aforementioned three clusters of pure precepts. Once these precepts are received, they are said to coexist with the mind; because the mind has no future boundary, the precepts are never lost. Furthermore, the Bodhisattva-śīla-sūtra states: 'There are two conditions for losing the bodhisattva precepts: first, falling back from the bodhisattva mind; second, developing an overwhelming evil mind. Apart from these two conditions, even upon relinquishing the body and being born in another world—even in hells or as beasts—one ultimately does not lose the precepts. If one receives them again later, it is not called obtaining them anew; it is called revealing and polishing them, and thus they endure.'
