Under the Liang, at Yunmen Temple in Shanyin, there was Shi Zhishun, whose original lay surname was Xu, a native of Linyi in Langye. He upheld the prohibitions without blemish and had cultivated and mastered the various scriptures. King Wenxuan of Jingling under the Qi treated him with exceptionally profound respect. In the sixth year of the Tianjian era, he died at the mountain monastery at the age of sixty-one. At first, Shun was critically ill and did not eat for many days. Just after the noon hour, he suddenly asked for a broth of water chestnuts. His disciple Tanhe, considering that Shun had abstained from grain for a long time, secretly boiled half a ge of rice into it and presented it. Shun swallowed it, but then vomited it back out, demanded water to rinse his mouth, and said to He, "You must leave Yunmen Temple forever and may not return to dwell here." His austere adherence to discipline was entirely of this sort. On the day of his death, an extraordinary fragrance was strongly scented within his room, and some also saw heavenly flowers and heavenly canopies. (The above five verifications are from the Liang Biographies of Eminent Monks.)
