89.21

佛告佛子。若自殺教人殺方便讚歎殺。見作隨喜乃至呪殺。殺業殺法殺因殺緣。乃至一切有命者不得故殺。是菩薩應起常住慈悲心孝順心方便救護。而自恣心快意殺生。是菩薩第一波羅夷罪（言波羅夷者此云極重罪也）。

The Buddha told the sons of the Buddha: "Whether killing oneself, instructing another to kill, killing through expedient praise, rejoicing upon seeing it done, or even killing by incantation; the action of killing, the method of killing, the cause of killing, the condition of killing—down to all living beings, one must not intentionally kill. This bodhisattva should give rise to an enduring mind of kindness and compassion, a mind of filial obedience, and expediently rescue and protect them. Yet if one gives free rein to one's mind and takes pleasure in killing living beings, this is the bodhisattva's first pārājika offense." (As for "pārājika", this is translated here as an extremely grave offense.)
