89.25

若佛子。自酤酒教人酤酒。酤酒因酤酒業酤酒法酤酒緣。一切酒不得酤。是酒起罪因緣。而菩薩應生一切眾生明達之慧。而反更生眾生顛倒心。是菩薩第五波羅夷罪。

If a disciple of the Buddha sells alcohol oneself, encourages someone to sell alcohol; through the causes of selling alcohol, the karma of selling alcohol, the methods of selling alcohol, or the conditions of selling alcohol—no alcohol of any kind may be sold. Alcohol is a causal condition giving rise to offenses. Yet a bodhisattva should generate in all sentient beings clear and penetrating wisdom. If, on the contrary, one generates perverted minds in sentient beings, this is the bodhisattva's fifth pārājika offense.
