We have heard that the All-Knowing One, named Siddhārtha, planted his roots at the beginning of the three incalculable kalpas and stood uniquely exalted at the end of the hundred kalpas. Gathering the entire dharmadhātu into his wisdom, he filled empty space to form his body. Yet his body is everywhere within measure, completely beyond the compass of rules; his wisdom functions in everything, utterly transcending the realm of thought. It cannot be fathomed by human affairs; how could it be discussed in terms of location? Intending to open the sight and hearing of ignorant mortals, he had to display the traces of a sage. He might manifest living among non-Buddhists, or appear as a young child, accommodating to his kind to entice ordinary mortals and adapting to various forms to transform beings. Only then was he called the Unsurpassed Being and titled the God of Gods. This is truly because the ignorant and the wise secretly communicate, and the ordinary and the sage are hard to measure; incomprehensible in virtue, no achievement is greater than his.
