集一切福德三昧經云。爾時毘耶離大城有大力士。名曰淨威德。成就大力。閻浮提中所有眾生。無有等者。聞沙門瞿曇成就十力那羅延身。復作是念。我當往觀沙門瞿曇。何如我也。即往佛所。初覩如來得大信樂。禮如來足一心觀佛。世尊知已。心欲降伏。即告目連。汝往取吾昔菩薩時。為妙瞿夷釋種捔力時箭。目連白佛。不知何處。爾時世尊。從右足放光。遍照三千世界之下大金剛輪。箭在彼堅住。佛告目連。汝見箭不。目連白言。已見。佛告目連。汝取持來。時大目連即下至彼如屈申臂頃。一切大眾皆見其去。即便持來授與如來。佛言。此父母生力非神通力。若以神通之力。是箭即過無量無邊諸佛世界。

The Sarvapuṇyasamuccaya-samādhi-sūtra says: At that time, in the great city of Vaiśālī, there was a great wrestler named Śuddhavīrya, endowed with great strength; among all sentient beings in Jambudvīpa, none was his equal. Hearing that the śramaṇa Gautama possessed the ten powers and the body of Nārāyaṇa, he further thought: "I should go see what the śramaṇa Gautama is like compared to me." He then went to where the Buddha was. When he first beheld the Tathāgata, he attained great faith and joy, bowed to the Tathāgata's feet, and single-mindedly gazed upon the Buddha. The World-Honoured One, knowing this, wished to subdue him, and immediately told Maudgalyāyana: "Go and retrieve the arrow from my past as a bodhisattva, when I competed in strength with the Śākyas on account of Yaśodharā." Maudgalyāyana said to the Buddha: "I do not know where it is." At that time, the World-Honoured One emitted light from his right foot, illuminating down beneath the trichiliocosm to the Great Vajra Wheel; the arrow was firmly standing there. The Buddha told Maudgalyāyana: "Do you see the arrow or not?" Maudgalyāyana said: "I see it." The Buddha told Maudgalyāyana: "Retrieve it and bring it here." Then Mahāmaudgalyāyana immediately descended there in the time it takes to bend or extend an arm. The entire great assembly all saw him go; he then brought it back and presented it to the Tathāgata. The Buddha said: "This was born of parental strength, not the power of supernatural penetrations. If it were through the power of supernatural penetrations, this arrow would have passed beyond immeasurable and boundless Buddha-worlds."
