如來之脊如大鉤鎖善有威曜巍巍之德大人相者。乃往古世為諸正覺興立形像繕修壞寺。其離散者勸使和合。施無畏懼。其諍訟者化令相順故。

The Great Person's mark of the Tathāgata's backbone being like a great linked chain, replete with majestic radiance and towering virtue, came about because in ancient lives he erected images for the sake of the Sambuddhas, repaired ruined temples, exhorted those who were separated to be harmonious, bestowed fearlessness, and transformed those who were quarrelling and litigating so that they became compliant with one another.
