9.82

如第二十二梵聲相中。依新婆沙論云。如來梵聲相。謂佛於喉藏中有妙大種。能發悅意和雅梵音。如羯羅頻迦鳥。乃發深遠雷震之聲。如帝釋鼓。如是音聲具八功德。一者深遠。二者和雅。三者分明。四者悅耳。五者入心。六者發喜。七者易了。八者無厭。

As for the twenty-second mark, the Brahma-voice, according to the *New Mahāvibhāṣā-śāstra*, it says: The Tathāgata's mark of the Brahma-voice means that within the Buddha's throat there are subtle and sublime great elements that can produce a pleasing, harmonious, and elegant Brahma-voice, like the kalaviṅka bird, and produce a deep, far-reaching sound like thunder, like Śakra's drum. Such a voice possesses eight virtues: first, deep and far-reaching; second, harmonious and elegant; third, distinct and clear; fourth, pleasing to the ear; fifth, penetrating the mind; sixth, generating joy; seventh, easily understood; eighth, untiring.
