90.17

詐偽諂佞者　心住利養中
由食利養故　不樂閑靜處
心常緣利養　晝夜不休息
彼處有衣食　某是我親友
必來請命我　心意多攀緣
敗壞寂靜心　不樂空閑處
常樂在人間　由利毀敗故
墜墮三惡道　障於出世道

Those who are deceitful and flattering
Have minds that dwell in material gain.
Because they feed upon material gain,
They take no delight in secluded, quiet places.
Their minds constantly dwell upon gain,
Without rest day or night:
"That place has food and clothing;
So-and-so is my close friend;
He will surely come and invite me."
With minds dwelling on so many attachments,
They ruin a tranquil mind
And do not delight in empty, quiet places.
Always delighting in being among human society,
Because they are ruined by material gain,
They fall down into the three evil destinies,
Obstructing the supramundane path.
