As the Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra states: 'The Buddha told the bhikṣus: "If I did not keep the precepts, I would fall into the three evil paths, and would not even obtain a base human body, much less be able to mature sentient beings, purify Buddha lands, and be fully endowed with sarvākārajñatā."' Furthermore, the Satyavadvipravāra Sūtra states: 'If one does not keep the precepts, one will not even obtain the body of a mangy jackal, much less obtain a body endowed with merit.'
