During the Song dynasty, at Changyu Temple, there was Shi Tanying, a native of Kuaiji. He went forth as a youth and was scrupulous in moral conduct, reciting over one hundred thousand words of scriptures. He resided at Changyu Temple, where he was exceptionally skilled at intoning and chanting, possessing a natural talent that was peerless. Ying once suffered from ringworm ulcers which could not be eliminated despite repeated treatments. Inside his room, he constantly made offerings to an image of Avalokiteśvara, prostrating morning and evening to pray for the cure of this illness. At an unusual time, he suddenly saw a snake climb up from behind the statue along the wall onto the roof. In an instant, a young rat fell from the roof to the ground, bathed in saliva and appearing as if dead. Ying observed that it seemed alive, so he took a piece of bamboo and scraped away the saliva. Having also heard that a rat swallowed by a snake can cure ulcer diseases, he immediately proceeded to take the saliva and apply it over the ringworm. Once he had applied it everywhere, the rat also revived. Within two nights, the sores and wounds were completely gone. Only then did he realize that both the snake and the rat had been brought about through his prayers. Thereupon, he was esteemed by the ruler, and his fame spread near and far. Later, he passed away at his dwelling at the age of eighty-one. (The preceding verification is from the Tang Gaoseng zhuan.)
