In the twentieth year of the Zhenguan era of the Tang dynasty, during the expedition against Kucha, there was a man named Sagu Xun who served as an adjutant for army granaries (xingjun tsangcao canjun). After the city of Kucha was sacked, he stripped gold from the face of a Buddha image in a vihāra. Within ten days, his eyebrows fell out completely. When he returned to Yizhou, he repented of his transgression before the Buddha, and dedicated all the gold he had obtained to the creation of meritorious deeds. Before long, his eyebrows grew back.
