爾時大王摩訶羅陀。及其妃后。悲號洟泣。悉皆脫身御服瓔珞。與諸大眾。往竹林中。收其舍利。即於此處起七寶塔。是時王子摩訶。薩埵臨捨命時。作是誓願。願我舍利於未來世過算數劫。常為眾生而作佛事。

At that time, the great king Mahāratha and his queen wailed and wept. They all took off their royal robes and necklaces, and together with the great assembly went into the bamboo grove, gathered his relics, and built a seven-jeweled stūpa at that very spot. At the time when Prince Mahāsattva was about to relinquish his life, he made this vow: 'May my relics, in future ages across countless kalpas, constantly perform the Buddha's work for sentient beings.'
