第三壽量長短者。俱舍論云。若不定生處於餘處。此道中皆得受生。譬如牛於夏時欲事偏多。狗於秋時。熊於冬時。馬於春時。野干等欲事無時。是時此眾生應生牛中。若非夏時則生野干中。若應生狗中。非時則生野干中。

Third, concerning the length of lifespan: the Kośa-śāstra says that if the place of rebirth is not fixed in another place, one may take birth anywhere within this destiny. For instance, cattle have particularly frequent sexual activity in summer, dogs in autumn, bears in winter, horses in spring, while jackals and the like have sexual activity at no fixed time. If at that time this sentient being is to be born among cattle, but it is not summer, it is then born among jackals. If it is to be born among dogs, but it is not the season, it is then born among jackals.
