According to the new Vibhāṣā-śāstra: However, there are sacred words explaining antidotes to them: if someone can uphold the precept against killing for one day and one night, in future lives they definitely will not encounter the arising of the calamity of weapons. If someone can, with an earnest and pure mind, present a single harītakī fruit as an offering to the saṃgha, in a future age they definitely will not encounter the arising of the calamity of pestilence. If someone can give a single morsel of food to sentient beings, in future lives they definitely will not encounter the time of the calamity of famine. Question: Do these three calamities occur in the other continents or not? Answer: The primary calamities do not occur, but there are similar ones—namely, rage increasing, physical strength deteriorating, and hunger and thirst repeatedly intensifying. This refers to the other two continents [Pūrvavideha and Avaragodānīya], because Uttarakuru also has no sinful karma for one to be born there, and furthermore they have no increasing of rage there.
