According to the *Mahāprajñāpāramitā-śāstra* and the *Jingangxian lun*, in the clarification of Mañjuśrī's compilation [it says]: The Tathāgata was outside this world and did not travel to other worlds. The Buddhas of the ten directions gathered like clouds and expounded the Dharma, which was also called 'interrogating the sūtras'. Later, Mañjuśrī compiled them, convening immeasurable and boundless bodhisattvas and great arhats. Each said, 'Such-and-such a sūtra I heard from the Buddha.' Subhūti said, 'The *Vajracchedikā-prajñāpāramitā* I heard from the Buddha.' The respective sections of the various sūtras each had disciples; those who heard them at that time all said, 'I personally heard this from the Buddha.' Therefore we know [the transmission] was not restricted to Ānanda. However, Ānanda heard all the sūtras everywhere, whereas the other disciples were partially restricted to their respective sections.
