As the Mahāprajñāpāramitā-śāstra states: Subhadra was one hundred and twenty years old. He dreamed that all humans and gods lost their eyes and were naked in the dark, and a voice said: 'The sun shall fall, the ocean of hell shall dry up, and the wind shall scatter Mount Sumeru.' Waking from the dream, he was terrified. A deity said: 'This means that the Omniscient One is about to enter nirvāṇa; it does not concern you.' The next morning he arrived in the grove, seeking to see the Buddha. Ānanda refused three times. The Buddha, knowing this, called him forward from afar to bid farewell together.
