The Buddha told Ānanda: "The previously mentioned jeweled stūpa is presently on Mount Gandhamādana. When the World-Honoured One enters parinirvāṇa, it will be entrusted to Śakra and the Four Heavenly Kings. After the World-Honoured One enters parinirvāṇa, they will take it to outside the southern Hualin [grove] of the ordination platform and place it there for ninety days, awaiting the completion of Kāśyapa's compilation. First, on palm leaves, the teachings of the Tripiṭaka will be written out. Next, King Ajātaśatru will be ordered to transcribe five copies again. Use my golden seal and silver seal to seal Kāśyapa's original copy and those written by King Ajātaśatru. A seven-jeweled seal must be used to seal Kāśyapa's palm-leaf copy. Next, use the seven-jeweled seal to seal the one written by the demon king. For the three copies written by the Brahmā king, a silver seal may be used. For the seven copies written by Śakra, a golden seal may be used. For the eighty thousand scripture copies written by the nāga king Sāgara, all three-colored seals are to be used together to seal and authenticate them completely. Have them circulated throughout Jambudvīpa and the other three continents, all stamped with these seals. Once the sūtras have been stamped, return them inside the golden vase. The reason it remains south of the ordination platform is so that the texts and meanings of all the Tripiṭaka teachings compiled by Kāśyapa will be made fully complete, and so that Ānanda may recite the sūtras as questioned without any forgetting. Due to these two matters, it was made to stabilize the south of the ordination platform. After Kāśyapa enters samādhi, the Four Heavenly Kings and Śakra will take the stūpa and the golden vase and proceed to the summit of Mount Gandhamādana. For one hundred years, Śakra and the Four Heavenly Kings will bring various heavenly music every day to make offerings to the Dharma. In that mountain, there are eighty thousand rṣis possessing the five supernatural powers who will successively become minor regional kings in this continent of Jambudvīpa and who do not believe in the saddharma; it stabilizes Mount Gandhamādana in order to lead them to generate faith. Furthermore, it is because King Aśoka at first will not believe in my Dharma; it is to turn his false views around, cause him to generate right view, and erect eighty thousand stūpas."
