The Vinaya Master asked the celestial being, saying, "From of old it has been handed down that Mañjuśrī leads five hundred immortals in preaching the Dharma on Mount Qingliang. In the sūtras it is clearly stated that Mañjuśrī is a bodhisattva who dwells permanently in the Sahā world. The Sahā is the general designation for the trichiliocosm; why would he dwell specifically in this realm?" He answered, "Mañjuśrī is the foremost master among all Buddhas; following conditions to benefit and manifest, his responsive transformations are not identical. The great deeds of a great being are not the realm of ordinary humans; you need not debate or appraise them. One need only have reverent faith that he mostly resides among the Five Terraces of Mount Qingliang. It currently belongs to northern Daizhou; to the west there are now Wutai County and Qingliang Prefecture."
