Having heard this verse, the bodhisattva contemplated it deeply, and then wrote this verse everywhere on stone cliffs and roadside trees. When finished, he climbed a tall tree and cast his body down. Before he reached the ground, various sounds came forth from the empty sky. At that time, the rākṣasa reverted to the body of Śakra, caught the bodhisattva, and placed him on level ground. He repented, apologized, bowed his head in homage, and departed. Because of the circumstance of giving up his body for half a verse, he surpassed twelve kalpas and attained the unsurpassed way before Maitreya.”
