In the fifth year of the Ganlu era of the Deposed Emperor of the Former Wei (260 CE), the śramaṇa Zhu Shixing was lecturing on the Small Perfection of Wisdom Sūtra. Regretting that its chapters and verses were incomplete, he went to the Western Regions in this year in search of it and obtained it. People there obstructed him, not permitting it to be taken east. Shixing held the scripture at the royal court and said: 'If the Great Dharma is not meant to be transmitted, let it follow the fire and be transformed.' He then cast the palm-leaf scripture into the fire, and it suffered no damage whatsoever. The entire country revered this anomaly, and they then allowed it to reach the Eastern Xia; this is the Fangguang jing. He died at the age of eighty. When he was cremated according to the Dharma, his corpse would not burn. Monks and laity marveled at it, and then fully incanted: 'If he truly attained the Way, according to the Dharma it should disintegrate.' Immediately upon the utterance of the words, it broke into pieces. They then gathered [the relics] and erected a stupa for him.
