Furthermore, the Suvarṇaprabhāsa-sūtra says: Dharma preachers have five things: first, the giving of the Dharma benefits both the other and oneself, whereas the giving of wealth does not; second, the giving of the Dharma can cause sentient beings to transcend the three realms, whereas the giving of wealth does not transcend the desire realm; third, the giving of the Dharma benefits the dharmakāya, whereas the giving of wealth nurtures the physical body; fourth, the giving of the Dharma increases boundlessly, whereas the giving of wealth must inevitably be exhausted; fifth, the giving of the Dharma can sever ignorance, whereas the giving of wealth only suppresses greedy thoughts. Therefore, know that the giving of wealth does not equal the Dharma. Within the giving of the Dharma itself, there are stages and gradations: if one understands something but does not want others to know it, concealing it while preaching out of fear that others might surpass oneself, then in the future one will constantly fail to hear the Dharma.
