The Buddha told the great king: 'Though that monkey was an animal, upon once seeing the arhat he received and upheld the three refuges and the five precepts. By virtue of this former merit, he bypassed a thousand kalpas of extremely heavy evil karma, was born in heaven, and met a bodhisattva in his last bodily existence before buddhahood. From then on, he met countless Buddhas, purely cultivated the holy life, fulfilled the six pāramitās, and dwelt on the stage of non-retrogression. In his final body, subsequent to Maitreya, he will attain anuttarasaṃbodhi; his Buddha title will be Siṃhacandra Tathāgata.'
