Emperor Ming of the Jin executed the strongman Hanxuan. Hanxuan said to the executioner, "My neck has many sinews. When you strike it, you must be sure to sever it immediately; otherwise I will avenge myself on you." The executioner failed to take care, and so it took several wounds before [the head] was finally severed. Soon afterward, he saw Hanxuan, wearing a crimson cap, dressed in scarlet garments, and shooting at him with a red bow and cinnabar arrows. The executioner cried out, "Hanxuan, spare me!" and died a short while later. (The one miracle above is from the *Records of Vengeful Spirits* [*Yuanhun zhi*].)
